UK Immigration Authorities Approves Extra Student Visas for UCL Foreign Learners
Numerous foreign learners will now be able to claim their guaranteed university positions after discussions among the Home Office and the London-based university finished with the authorities issuing supplementary visas.
Visa Quota Problems
Numerous of scholars, plenty from the Chinese mainland, had been left in limbo after the university miscalculated the applications for places this session and surpassed its quota of CAS online certificates allowed by the immigration authorities.
Institution Apology and Assistance
the institution expressed regret to those impacted, informing them it was "deeply regretful for the disruption and uncertainty", and offering to compensate £1,000 fees for submissions made through British visa authorities' "expedited processing".
We're delighted to guarantee our impacted overseas students that they can now begin their studies at our university.
Exceptional Demand
The institution said "an extraordinary surge in demand" was responsible for the surplus intake, and had originally told scholars with guaranteed places that they should defer until next year, leading many to express concern they experienced financial losses after advance payment for travel and housing.
Positive Resolution
After negotiations between the university and the UK visa officials at the end of last week, learners were advised that they would receive entry permits ultimately.
A spokesperson for University College London commented: "We wholeheartedly apologize to all those who have been affected by the recent period of confusion and we are exceptionally grateful for their cooperation. Our personnel are now moving rapidly to contact scholars individually with information and support.
Student Responses
Several students said they had obtained electronic messages from the university within the last two days indicating their study acceptance confirmations would be provided, a key necessity to be issued a education visa. A few said they had not yet received verification.
An applicant commented: "I'm ecstatic to be able to study in the Britain. We were advised conflicting messages since last month, it was extremely difficult. I was already bound to paying for lodging in the city, with no repayment offered, so I am quite thankful."
National Impact
About 200 applicants from East Asia were impacted, with a number already in the United Kingdom at the end of last month for the beginning of the academic session. Those on graduate studies were told they had to be in attendance by 10 October or forfeit their spot.
We're extremely grateful for your patience with this process and we are truly apologetic for the disturbance and doubt which this will have caused you.
